Broomgrove Community Development
About the project
The project aims to engage the local community, encourage residents to use the community centre (following a refurbishment funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund), and help identify their needs. Where possible we bring in external providers in response to residents’ requests.
Who we’re working with
As well as a close working relationship with Oasis, we work with multiple partners to bring services to residents. These include Energise Sussex, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre, CAB 1066 and One You East Sussex.
Our approach
We use an asset-based approach. We encourage residents to share their stories, talents and aspirations, which enables us to develop a collaborative programme of work, tailored to the needs and wishes of local people. Local people can sit, chat, or participate in activities like cooking or crafting. These shared experiences encourage new friendships, new skills and resilience.
The Broomgrove Community Development Worker is also a Literacy Champion for the National Literacy Trust, helping to promote a love of reading amongst the younger residents of the Broomgrove Estate.
