What is an Independent Examination?
An Independent Examination is a ‘light touch’ scrutiny involving the examiner checking for specific matters only.

What is the purpose of an Independent Examination?
The purpose of an IE is to give the charity’s Trustees, supporters, Beneficiaries and the wider public some independent assurance that the charity’s money has been properly accounted for.

Does my charity need to have an Independent Examination?
If your charity has an income over £25,000 then yes, you need to submit an IE or audit.

My charity has an income of below £25,000 – do I still need an IE?
If your income is below £25,000 it is optional but is good practice and funders like to see accounts.

Can HVA do an Independent Examination for my charity or CIO?
HVA can do an Independent Examination for unincorporated Charities and CIO’s with incomes under £250,000.
